Pädaste Beehive Tours

Pädaste Beehive Tours will take place from June to September.
Time schedule will be announced in May 2024!

Muhu has always been known for its delicious honey, the biodiversity on the island is particularly rich and therefore there is not the usual predominance of nectars collected from a single type of plant. The biodiversity is reflected in our honey, a multifloral or wildflower honey, the most ancient type of honey.

We welcome our resident guests to explore the Pädaste beehives and learn more about the wonderful world of honeybees with our local beekeeper.

The first harvest of Pädaste honey can be enjoyed by our guests already this June during breakfast, and we will of course use our honey in our cuisine whenever appropriate. The Pädaste honey will also be available for guests to take home or to purchase at selected Pädaste Gourmet retail concessionaires.

The Beehive Tour starts at 12:00 and is complimentary for resident guests. The tour lasts about 30 minutes, no special clothing is needed, we provide a protective suit if you would like to inspect the hives from close by.

To join, please inform our Guest Relations Manager before 11:00 in the morning. Limited spots available on the tour.
Beehive tours will take place only in case of good weather!

Beekeeping at Pädaste Manor

When Imre Sooäär and Martin Breuer bought the estate in the mid-1990 the last inhabitants of Pädaste were 3 colonies that lived in hives close to what is now the Pädaste Yacht Club. By the time we had acquired the estate, the hives had been abandoned. We are extremely happy to now reinstate the beekeeping tradition!

Honey bees collect pollen and nectar from a variety of flowering plants, including milkweed, meadowsweet, dandelion, clover, goldenrod, and a variety of fruit trees in a radius of 500m. The close proximity of our kitchen garden to the hives is definitely a delight also for our honeybees.
